AlphaGroup Medical Communications Welcomes HEOR Expert Kent Summers, RPh, PhD

The AlphaGroup of scientific and medical communications agencies including AlphaBioCom, AlphaScientia, and AlphaQsci is pleased to announce Dr. Kent Summers, RPh, PhD, has joined the organization as HEOR Strategic Lead as of July 6. His expertise in outcomes research will help to strengthen and broaden AlphaGroup’s HEOR capabilities. Dr. Summers will provide expert guidance to the account teams to identify further HEOR opportunities, develop strategically appropriate solutions, and help sell them into current HEOR clients. He will oversee HEOR capability presentations to existing clients, partner with business development teams to identify and realize new business opportunities, and train AlphaGroup team members on all aspects of HEOR.

He worked previously as Head of Healthcare Outcomes Solutions, Astellas Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he oversaw communications for the health economics and outcomes data relevant to Astellas’ products.  Dr. Summers joined Astellas from Endo Health Solutions where he was Vice President, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, a function that included both value evidence development and communication. 

A pharmacist by training, Dr. Summers received a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and has actively worked in the field of outcomes research both as a producer and consumer of value evidence. He is a producer of value evidence with more than a decade of pharmaceutical development experience. In addition, he has been on faculty at both the Purdue University and University of Mississippi schools of pharmacy.​

Dr. Summers was the Vice President of Clinical Programs and Pharmaco-economics for Prudential Healthcare, a national health plan, as well as the Health Economist for the Indiana Medicaid program.  He was significantly involved in the Pharmacy Quality Alliance as Director of Research, responsible for quality performance measure development and approval for use in the Medicare Star rating program for health provider organizations.

Dr. Summers has authored six book chapters, served as coeditor of two books, and published more than 60 papers in peer-reviewed, scientific journals. He has written more than 60 editorials, book reviews, continuing education monographs, and articles in trade publications. He has presented at more than 150 scientific and trade organization meetings. Dr. Summers has served on multiple editorial advisory boards, including: Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy; Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy; Expert Review of Pharmacoeconomics & Outcomes Research; and Journal of Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy.  He was on the Board of Directors for American Lung Association – Indiana; International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research; and American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.

In his personal life, Dr. Summers is an avid sports car driver and can be found on the track in his Porsche Boxster S. He was Treasurer of the Central Indiana Porsche club. His community support includes working with Feeding Tampa Bay, and he is Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Arbor Greene Homeowners Association
